Super heroes turned real via AI.

The recent upscaling AI thread had me thinking... why not use AI to make comic characters look more realistic?

I thought, start easy - someone who looks relatively human... and started with Deathbird (I had a comic book crush on her in my youth... hey, listen don't ask...!)

So this....



Got turned into this... which, not TOO bad... but something about her legs... too short, perhaps?

So then I figured - why not try one of my favorite, obscure characters, because while Deathird's costume is relatively easy, Adam-X's costume and his hair and everything from this picture is far more complex...



And holy crow, this one knocked my socks off...

So, seeing it do well with humans, I thought, let's challenge it - and uploaded this picture of Hepzibah of the Starjammers...



And was very, very, very surprised how well it turned out...

I think the proportions of the first one look fine. And the image itself looks realistic in the sense that it looks like a picture of a cosplayer.

The last one also looks pretty good, with the exception of that stray "fluff" by her arm.

You are right about the middle one. With the style of the outfit, it looks like it came from a promotional picture for a movie.

So I went and made it more complex - took one of my favorite images of the Starjammers (and reversed it because sometimes CoPilot can detect copyright images, but reversing it apparently fools it) -



And this time, it did what you'd expect from AI...

Left to right (on the bottom) is Hepzibah - who now has an extra arm, Corsair (who looks good), Raza (who looks nothing like his original), and Lilandra (who looks nothing like it)... and Binary, flying in the back looks like the Human Torch from Fantastic Four.

... and those ant-human-looking things in the original now look like stereotypical aliens (little green men!) *snerk*

And yes, Raza (with the green/yellow head?) looks nothing like the original. Where are the pointy ears, for one?

Yeah I think if you introduce too many factors (especially human), AI doesn't know how to handle it.

I bet if I did a solo picture of Raza, it'd be much closer.

I thought I'd have fun, and select someone in comics who has extra arms and see how CoPilot handles it...



And... was surprised it "corrected" the extra arms apparently. lol

With the three arms, maybe the AI assumed that the panel was trying to depict motion and then made it one arm. I think I've seen that to show a punch being thrown or something.

So who is the three-armed character? How would that even work? How are they attached? I'm not sure what the advantage would be. I would think the extra arms would just get in the way of each other. And then the character would be off-balance with that extra weight on one side. It's probably not good for his back, either.

X-Treme. That's not even remotely subtle. It's funny how pervasive it was. Not just as a concept or attitude, but the word itself. I remember "G.I. Joe Extreme" and "Extreme Ghostbusters" coming out in the 90s (I didn't watch the former, and I wouldn't call the latter "extreme" at all).

Whoever said superheroes were supposed to be even remotely subtle?

I'm pretty sure the superhero genre arose out of mythological gods and heroes. It's no accident that superhero films are turning back to mythology for "inspiration" - witness the Thor movies, Percy Jackson and the Giants, etc. etc.

I would love to see some of the more embarrassing original Thor stories (and/or Hercules stories) get filmed - for instance, that time that Thor had to stand in for Freyja and "marry" a giant in order to get his hammer back.

Apparently, the giants noticed that the "bride" was eating and drinking way more than a woman "should", but Loki explained that Freyja was simply nervous, which is why she was drinking entire kegs of beer all in one go.

I guess you could say Thor got ... hammered. To the EXTREME!
