X-Treme. That's not even remotely subtle. It's funny how pervasive it was. Not just as a concept or attitude, but the word itself. I remember "G.I. Joe Extreme" and "Extreme Ghostbusters" coming out in the 90s (I didn't watch the former, and I wouldn't call the latter "extreme" at all).

In the 90s, it was very much about one upping, it felt like.

I would love to see some of the more embarrassing original Thor stories (and/or Hercules stories) get filmed - for instance, that time that Thor had to stand in for Freyja and "marry" a giant in order to get his hammer back.

Well, the THOR movies are all (very, very, very, very, very loosely) based (on a mish-mash of many, many, many) stories in comics, and not even close to actual Norse mythology (except in names of characters and places).

THOR 4, was an atrocity.

Words can not be venomous enough to fall from my lips to describe my hatred of that movie.

One movie, literally, burned me out from watching new super hero movies.

That is how much I hated it.

I refused to see Wakana: Forever in theaters. Waited for it to come to streaming. Made it to where Namor comes to shore and meets Black Panther's sister and mother, and turned it off.

Couldn't finish Black Widow.

Couldn't finish Eternals.

Never saw Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Watched Ant-Man and Wasp: Quantum on streaming. It was fine.

Guardians 3, was meh, fine.

The Marvels I tried, couldn't finish.

Deadpool & Wolverine was great - but that's because of Ryan Reynolds having his hands on it.

Never saw Captain America: Brave New World or Thunderbolts.

Have not yet seen Fantastic Four.

Not seen any Batman in forever, and have not seen Superman.

And this from someone who tried to catch midnight showings. lol

I am not sure what it's going to take to renew my faith.

I am waiting to see if they actually do an X-Men movie.

If they do it right, I might feel restored.

They eff that up, I will stop watching new super hero movies entirely and stick to the old ones, like DREDD (not to be confused with Judge Dredd, with Stallone - two very different movies, though based on the same character).

DREDD is probably as good, if not better, than the best MCU movie, and sadly wasn't recognized.

Like I said, it might be refreshing to see a Thor film based on the original Viking myths, where Thor does something boneheaded, has to be rescued by Loki, and then has to do something embarrassing (like "marry" a giant). Then he gets his hammer back and -- BAM! -- it's clobbering time.

Sure, it's stupid, but at least the air of farce about it will be interesting. I think Superhero films lately have gotten waaay too serious.

Thor 3 had a ton more comedy so they tried to do that with Thor 4, while, having Jane Foster essentially die of "cancer."
And I will never find any movie where one of the characters is dying of "cancer" humorous.

You've not watched Guardians of the Galaxy (any of them 1 or 2 but 1 is by far the best) or Thor 3, clearly.

Don't watch Guardians 3 unless you like to cry unreasonably over CGI characters.

First, it felt like three writers who had all different ideas, couldn't agree, so they smashed it together.

Uh-oh. Big mistake, that ... it's possible to write a good film "by committee" (e.g. Monty Python and the Holy Grail was written by all six Pythons), but it will feel unstructured. (The first season of Monty Python's Flying Circus was also written "by committee", and it showed). The BBC deserves credit for letting the Pythons have a second season.

Um, what the...? I've no idea what they were thinking. A character dying of anything is not funny, much less something drawn-out like cancer.

With something like that, you want to develop pathos and understanding, not blow it off for the sake of a cheap gag.

Fair enough. Like I said, I'm not big on the superhero genre. IIRC, I only saw the first Thor movie, and after about 20 minutes, I switched off -- for two reasons:

1. Odin throws Thor out of Asgard because he hasn't learned "humility" is stupid. Odin comes across as a child throwing a tantrum, and "humility" goes against everything that Thor stands for: strength, courage, loyalty, and justice.

2. The whole idea of "enchanting Mjolnir so it can't be moved by anyone who is 'unworthy'" (how do you even judge "worth"?) just ... turned me off. :-\ Yes, I know that it was in the Marvel comics, but there is nothing in Norse mythology about it. At least two giants have stolen and used Mjolnir without penalty.

Not only that, but I've seen this idea before. Excalibur, King Arthur's sword, is famous for this idea. I'm not saying Marvel can't use that idea (obviously they have), but it's not exactly original.

If you want something original, how about defining exactly why you can't use a weapon? For instance, you can't use a particular sword if you hadn't just taken a cream pie to the face. Mmm ... tastes like pineapple! OK, I'm obviously being facetious, but "worth" is so imprecise as to be useless. *shrug*
