King’s Quest I-IV in DOSBox!
I have a question regarding KQ I-IV? I’ve made a Tandy 1000 configuration in DOSBox and have a question? I’d like to play KQ I-IV in this configuration and would like to ask if it’s possible to play them with Tandy Sound and Tandy Video? I’d be using my KQ Collection 2 copies of the games. Thank you and stay safe!

I believe so? Because you choose those options with the INSTALL.BAT of each game (or whatever the install is).SierraFan wrote: ↑Wed Aug 25, 2021 10:24 pm I have a question regarding KQ I-IV? I was thinking probably so, but wasn’t 100% sure. I’ll try them out and report back with my findings. Thank you!

There is no configuration for AGI games. You have to set Tandy in the dosbox.conf. And so you know, while there is an AGI version of KQ4 it was never included with any of the collections. For KQ4 what you want is to use Roland sound with Munt. But then, the SHP installers will already set these games up with optimal settings with Tandy set for the AGI games.

I’ve grown to like the way that the Tandy 3-Voice sounds. I do agree that the Roland MT-32 is the way to go for the early Sierra adventures, but the Tandy Sound has a certain uniqueness that I like. Thank you all for responding to me and I hope you all stay safe.

If you want to play KQ4SCI with Tandy 3-voice you absolutely can. You just need the driver (which doesn't come with the version on the collection, unfortunately). Here's the driver. Unzip it to the game directory. Then edit the RESOURCE.CFG file also in the game folder and change the sound driver to "JR.DRV" and then launch the game and you should have Tandy 3-voice sound. Obviously, make sure the DOSBox machine type is set to Tandy. I'm a big fan of Tandy 3-voice too. I often go back to it myself. You can use this driver for any SCI0 or SCI1.0 game by the way.

Thank you all for chiming in. The version of KQ IV that I have is an earlier SCI version. It has the JR.DRV that Musically Inspired linked in their post. More than likely not the exact same version, but should work for what I need. I was able to get KQ I-IV working under the config I’ve made, so I now can play with Tandy Sound & Video. Thanks again for all your help and have a good day!
