BioWare RPGs

Post by AndreaDraco »

Actually, this thread is about their earlier RPG. I found in my uncle's house an old copy of Baldur's Gate. Of course, I've heard of it, but I never played it back then. How is it? And how it compares to Bioware's more recent RPGs?

Thanks my gurus! :D

Baldur's Gate was "landmark" for RPGs at the time it came out, but by modern standards it will feel quite dated. Most of the recent Bioware RPGs have much better party interaction and story depth, as well as full 3D graphics instead of the isometric view of BG1 and BG2. I preferred Jade Empire, Mass Effect, Knights of the Old Republic and even Neverwinter Nights over the Baldur's Gate series (although I'll admit NWN wasn't really any better in story development and character interaction until you reached HotU). The BG series was enjoyable, but I didn't enjoy it as much as the others overall. I know there are some people who feel the exact opposite, so you may want to give it a shot anyway. It certainly did revitalise the RPG genre at the time.

Agree with the above in that it was an incredible game for it's time. It never usurped my favorite RPG, which was the REALMS OF ARKANIA series, which is even FAR more out dated - but ROA locked a special place for me.

But I'd recommend Balder's Gate. As Mia said - it was definitely an amazing game for it's time.
